The Gump Worsley Memorial Hockey League is looking to fill some ownership vacancies as we head into the 2011-2012 regular season! Read on to find out more…
What’s the GWMHL?
We’re one of the longest-running and most successful APBA Hockey sim leagues, with our inaugural season dating all the way back to 1993. In our league, members are responsible for all GM duties like drafting and trades, but also play or zip their home games throughout the season and the playoffs. It’s hands-on without being too intense, and we try to strike a balance between an active league and life, work, and family.
Our league has members throughout North America, some of whom have been major participants in the APBA Hockey community since the early years.
You can find out more about the GWMHL experience by checking out our rulebook.
Why join us?
We’re a great league! Our members are passionate about hockey and care about the league and other GMs.
Get a sense of history. The GWMHL has an incredibly rich history, and becoming a member means that you get to be a part of it. In this league, every game, goal, and save has meaning, adding to two decades worth of great sim hockey.
Find the perfect balance for your hobby. Our play style is laid-back and family-friendly: we have deadlines, but we run on a quarterly schedule throughout the season. That means those deadlines are easy to work around when life gets in the way.
What teams are available?
Altoona Railroaders – This squad holds the third overall draft choice in our upcoming rookie draft and some nice talent to build around, including Tobias Enstrom, Jordan Staal, and Jamie Benn. This team is now claimed!
Boston Banshees – Highlighted by a well-balanced lineup from top to bottom, starting with Henrik Lundqvist, this team has few weaknesses and, with the right guidance, could easily contend for a playoff berth this coming season.
We may also be making the successful Portland and Salem franchises available this summer. If interested, please enquire.
What do I need to know before I join?
The first thing you should do is take a look at our rules and see if they’re for you. Look around the rest our site too to get an idea of league goings-on and what you can expect.
Right now we’re waiting for the new season disk to be completed before scheduling the rookie draft and subsequent free agent draft. The rookie draft will happen by live chat while the free agent draft takes place via email. We hope to start the 2011-2012 season no later than October
You want a fun, deep, challenging sim hockey league. We want members who enrich the GWMHL, take part in league activities, meet deadlines, and have fun. If that sounds like you, or if you have any questions about the league, drop commissioner Jeff Morris an email today.
