Trading has now reopened ahead of the 2022-23 regular season, and GWMHL teams wasted no time getting back into action.
In the first move, the Clarington Coyotes traded goaltender Sergei Bobrovsky and a third round rookie pick to El Dorado for inconsistent winger Denis Gurianov and the Lynx’s first rounder, 17th overall. The Lynx still have Delta’s first rounder (9th), which allowed them to take a big swing at Bobrovsky, who struggled to a 4-16-3 record for the expansion Coyotes, to replace the injured Carey Price and retiring Tuukka Rask. Gurianov, meanwhile, had 8 goals and 13 assists in 43 games last season on a stacked Lynx roster that afforded him few opportunities.
The second deal saw the Hamilton Ti-Cats add some depth on the wings as they sent a third round pick to the Boston Banshees for Andreas Johnsson and Danton Heinen. The newly opened spots in Boston’s lineup surely mean they’re once again a team to watch in the trade market this offseason. Johnsson had a subpar season, with just 19 points in 73 games, but Heinen managed 17 goals in 61 games and could provide some intriguing flexibility to the Hamilton forward corps.
